Since shifting to Sydney last year I have barely watched couple of movies at the theatre. Overall I feel the experience here is not as fun as it is in India, but last week I decided to break my fast, take a break from streaming everything and watched two movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
It’s been a while since I walked-out of a Marvel movie with a wide smile on my face. I had almost given up on Marvel movies after Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantumania, but this one defied my expectations. Guardians Vol 3 was full of heart and added even more depth to every single character, while not diluting the story one bit.
Most superhero franchises start with the backstory of characters, so it was refreshing to see a movie get around to it only after we have come to know and like a character over several movies.
I don’t feel a need to say much more, because I think this is a movie that needs to be experienced and enjoyed. There’s no point dissecting fun.
Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum
It’s good to see Fahad Fazil back on screen again and it had all the ingredients for a great movie. Great humour, good acting and wonderful cinematography; unfortunately the movie spent too much time exploring sub-plots, with the last 20-30 mins being a real drag.
I still had fun watching it though, but in an era of bottomless buffet of content on streaming services, it’s a tough sell as a movie experience.
I watched both the movies at Event Cinemas in Sydney and I don’t understand why their halls are so poorly maintained. The musty smell, dusty curtains and sticky floors, make it a terrible movie experience. Once you add 20 mins of ads before the show, I began to wonder why I had made the decision to visit the place.
