DIY News

I mentioned the ridiculousness of TV news yesterday, but even writers are moving on to self publishing.

Blogging was supposed to do that but the complications around a revenue model (no advertising is not it. It’s a terrible model) and the number of people that actually succeeded with a paygate meant its slow demise.

Email Newsletters have now picked up and a lot of writers are shifting to platforms like substack. Interesting revenue model, but I’m not sure how it plays out in the long term. Yes, newsletters help you understand your audience and give you a way to contact them, but ultimately you’re bombarding someones inbox.

May be it’s the way I use email, or may be I just don’t get it. I don’t see how it is sustainable for such a large volume of writers. There are an exceptional few that I will read in the long-term. The dust will settle eventually.
