Silence

Traffic noise

One of the things I do not like about Mumbai is non-stop traffic noise and honking. Now it’s the third week out of the city and I can’t begin to tell you what a relief that is.

Sure, I do miss the conveniences that Mumbai has to offer, but the peace of mind that I get now cannot be bartered for.

Air and water pollution is often talked about, but these are difficult to control in cities. This sound pollution however could be managed to an extent.

There was a time in March when traffic noise was almost non-existent due to the lockdown imposed. Without a radical measure or a law in place I’m not sure we’ll ever have those days again.

Till then I guess we’ll all travel out of the cities when we want to listen to birds, crickets and the wind. Or else we could talk to authorities about pollution in cities to experience a moment of silence.
